Shri N. Sugalchand Jain - Founder Trustee

The family of Shri N. Sugalchand Jain, hailing from Siyat village Sojat Road in the Pali District of Rajasthan has settled down in Tamil Nadu for many decades. Having worked as an apprentice under his father, Shri Sugalchand Jain took to business and has not looked back since. Either individually or in association with his partners, Shri Jain has started and developed a number of ventures and made them profitable. Having developed these ventures into successful ones within a very short time, Shri Jain turned his attention to diverting a part of profits earned from these ventures for serving the weaker sections of the community. Shri Jain has devoted a good portion of his time and resources to serve the public at large both in Chennai and in major cities of India including his native town of Siyat in Rajasthan. His contribution in the field of social services are many:-

1. An important contribution which Shri Jain has made is in establishing the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation in 1994 for identifying, nurturing and encouraging individuals and institutions who are engaged in serving their fellowmen without any expectation of rewards. So far 63 awards covering 17 States and 1 Union Territory, have been given away to individuals and institutions rendering selfless services in the field of Non-Violence & Vegetarianism, Education , Medicine and Community & Social Service. Each award includes a cash component of Rs.10 lakhs, probably one of the highest cash component of many such awards. The awardees are decided by an eminent Selection Jury headed by Justice Shri M. N. Venkatachaliah, Former Chief Justice of India.

2. Shri Jain has Founded the Singhvi Charitable Trust in 1974, that has been assisting the weaker sections of the community particularly in the fields of medical assistance and education. More recently the Trust is concentrating on assisting the visually challenged through the supply of medicines and spectacles entirely free of cost through camps held at remote rural areas. During the period from early 1997 till date the Trust has provided spectacles to 2,81,806 persons, 91,589 persons have been provided medicines and 66,470 patients have been referred for Surgeries to premier hospitals in Chennai, 65,725 persons were given dental treatment. Needless to add, that all these services are provided by the Singhvi Charitable Trust entirely free of cost. The Trust's efforts have been recognised in the Limca Book of Records. The Trust runs the Singhvi Scan & Diagnostic Centre in Triplicane, Chennai wherein diagnostic services CT Scan, digitalized X-ray, Echo cardiogram, ECG, Physiotherapy, dental and eye care services are provided at affordable costs. Generous donations are given to NGOs and individuals involved in the selfless service for the welfare of the weaker section.

3. Singhvi Charitable Trust has established a Palliative Care Centre named Mahaveer Ashray in the Smt.Chandrabai Singhvi Campus at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. It will be a unit of Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar. Shri N Sugalchand Jain, an active member of the Governing Council of the Cancer Institute, Adyar and ever sensitive to the urgent need of the poor and underprivileged, terminally ill persons, discussed the need for a Palliative Care Centre with Padma Vibhushan Dr. V. Shanta, Chairperson, of the Cancer Institute, Adyar. After discussion, he decided to set up a Palliative Care Centre in Sriperumbudur and hand it over to the Cancer Institute. The 50 bedded Mahaveer Ashray is a state of the art care centre housed in a well planned aesthetic building with patient-comfort ambience, equipment and furniture. It will focus on minimizing the pain of the terminally ill patients, relieve sufferings of the inmates and assist them to spend each of the remaining days with dignity and comfort. The Mahaveer Ashray situated in 5 acres of land in the Smt. Chandrabai Campus was handed over to Dr. V. Shanta on 22nd June, 2017.

4. The Vidhya Jyothi Trust managed by Shri Sugalchand's family, runs 2 Primary and 1 Higher Secondary Co-education Schools in Triplicane, Chennai having a total strength of 1580 students. The Trust has also established an Engineering College, the Mahaveer Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) in Jadan, Pali district, Rajathan, near Siyat, the native village of the Founder's family. This College provides an excellent opportunity to the rural students to pursue higher studies. MITS has well-appointed class rooms and laboratories, qualified faculty members. The deserving students are assisted with scholarships.

5. The JainsIndia Trust was set up by Shri N Sugalchand Jain in 2002 as a religious charitable trust to provide various kinds of relief to the poor and needy members of Jain community. It provides financial assistance to the needy widows, deserted women and other deserving people belonging to the Jain community, for the maintenance of their livelihood. During the year 2016-17, 604 Jain students were given scholarship, 59 students were given stipend and 167 needy people were given monthly pension.

6. The group of companies of which Shri Jain is a major partner has been providing financial assistance to individuals and institutions rendering service to the members of the poorer sections of the community. The assistance was provided to such institutions and individuals all over the country. The institutions include the Cancer Institute & Sankara Nethralaya at Chennai, the Dharmishila Cancer Hospital, New Delhi, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre at Ahmedabad and Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Samithi, Jaipur. The assistance thus made available to various institutions engaged in serving the community during the past few years is in excess of Rs. 10 Crores. More recently he has embarked on a project to provide shelter to the patients of the cancer institute who gather in the earlier hours of the day before entering the hospital. Similarly, Shri Jain has shared his managerial and financial expertise with many institutions, such as, the Sankara Nethralaya, the Voluntary Health Services and the Cancer Institute.


Sri P.V. Krishnamurthy - Hony. Exe. Trustee

Shri P V Krishnamurthy, a Retd. Officer of the Indian Accounts & Audit Service has served in a number of important positions in his own department and the Government of India. The posts which he held include that of the Finance Member, Delhi Development Authority, Special Assistant to a Union Cabinet Minister, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Chief Auditor Commercial Accounts, Accountant General, Madhya Pradesh, Principal Accountant General, Tamilnadu and Senior Executive Director, SEBI. He is at present functioning as the Honorary Executive Trustee of the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation. He takes keen interest and guides the activities of various charitable Trusts established by Shri Sugalchand Jain.

Shri Gunwant Nagardas Damani – Trustee :

After completing his education from A.B. Parekh Gujarati Vidya Mandir in 1966, Mr. Damani joined Ideal Cycle House as an apprentice. In 1970 along with his younger sibling he co-founded Swastik Cycle Company. It was in the year 1983 that the Damani brothers entered the lottery business. And, in 1991 along with Mr N. Sugal Chand Jain and Mr Pravin Bhai Chheda co-founded 'Sugal and Damani' group of companies. With an annual turnover exceeding 1000 crores, they diversified in different businesses keeping the lottery business at the core. Well known for his philanthropy, he is a founder member of many social and charitable organizations and has been engaged in various philanthropic activities throughout his life. He is a founder trustee of Bhagwan Mahaveer foundation, Chennai which institutes awards for self-excellence and works in close association with the Cancer hospital and Shankara Nethralaya, Chennai.

Shri Vinodh Kumar - Trustee :

Shri Vinodh Kumar, the younger son of Sri N. Sugalchand Jain, has been actively associated with the management of various businesses run by his father for over two decades, joining immediately after completing B.Com course.

Share broking and commodity broking

He is directly in charge of the Sugal & Damani Share Brokers Ltd. and expanded the scope of activities of the company by developing a group of loyal clients over the years. Sugal & Damani Share Brokers Ltd is the member of NSE and BSE in cash as well as FAO segments.

Real estate sector

He is engaged in property development through directorships on the Board of two companies namely Ankur Foundations Pvt Ltd and Ansu Builders Pvt Ltd. which have completed the construction of several commercial / residential buildings at Chennai and Bangalore.He has developed number of companies like Reliance (Reliance Retail), TVS, ABT Maruti, GATI, Lee & Muirhead Ltd (Integrated Logistics Solutions) and Recall Total Information as well as warehouses with dedicated facilities.

Charitable activities-CSR initiatives

Keeping in view the need for corporate social responsibility, Sri Vinodh Kumar renders constructive and active support to the charitable activities of the family through various Trusts that include the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation which awards individuals and institutions engaged in serving their fellowmen for Excellence in Human Endeavour in the field of Non-Violence & Vegetarianism, Education, Medicine, Community & Social Service. He is associated with the management of Vidhya Jyothi Trust which is running 3 schools in Chennai and 1 Engineering college in Rajasthan, providing quality education at modest rates of fees. He is also the Trustee of Ganadipathy Tulsi's Engineering College in Vellore.

He is the Trustee of Singhvi Charitable Trust that takes a keen interest in conducting eye camps in rural areas of the State, entirely free of cost. He also keenly participates in decision making relating to the donations made by the various Trusts with which his father and brother are associated.

He constantly keeps himself aware of what is going on all over the world in the fields of finance and business management. He has also undergone specialized training in managing business as well on Corporate Governance at ISB, Hyderabad. He has planned several new projects in various spheres which are in various stages.

Shri Pravin B Chheda - Trustee :

Born in the Kutch district of Gujarat, he ventured in the world of business at a very young age. Initiated in the lottery business as a vendor he slowly graduated to be one of the main promoters of the Sugal & Damani group. He reveals a philanthropic side to his personality from his work as an associate with many charitable trusts and also as the managing trustee of Matushree Makaben Bhimsi Chheda Charitable Trust. He is a very active Trustee of the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation and is very committed to identify and encourage people and institutions who are doing altruistic services for the welfare of the weaker section of our society.


Shri Pramod Jain - Trustee :

Shri Pramod Jain is the son of Shri Prasanchand Jain. Born on 15.05.1988 , Shri Jain has completed his BBA degree and Family Management Business from S P Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai. He has gained considerable business acumen and is supporting his other family members in their philanthropy activities.


Shri Pratik Jain - Trustee :

Shri Pratik Jain is the son of Shri S Vinodhkumar. Born on 30.11.1994. Shri Pratik Jain completed graduation from Loyola College in the stream of Business administration. He has gained considerable business acumen and evinces keen interest in the family's philanthropic activities.
