Most of us are not aware that there are a large number of individuals and institutions spread throughout the country serving their fellowmen, under very difficult conditions in their self chosen task of alleviating the problems of others. These individuals and institutions face many hardships, physical or otherwise, apart from the fact that there are not many who are willing to come forward to encourage and assist them. We are usually slow to recognise merit or initiative let alone reward them. Their noble services require to be recognized although they may not seek any recognition or reward. If their work is brought to light, recognized and publicized, others may emulate and undertake similar projects for helping the needy in the large areas of education, public health, good drinking water etc. where basic facilities are absent
Shri N. Sugalchand Jain and a few of his friends decided the need to identify, nurture and encourage altruistic persons and institutions providing health, hope and relief to the needy and also encourage others to take up such noble endeavour. This initiative resulted in the establishment of the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation as a public charitable trust by Shri Jain.
